The 2013 Skoda Rapid sedan in diesel guise has been launched in the Himalayan nation of Nepal. In Nepal, the Skoda Rapid Diesel is available in three variants, the same case as in India. Active Plus, Ambition Plus and the Elegance Plus are the three variants of the Rapid diesel sold in Nepal. The Rapid Diesel that has been launched in Nepal is made by Skoda India, in the Volkswagen car factory at Chakan, off Pune. In Nepal, the Skoda Rapid Diesel joins its sibling, the Volkswagen Vento MPI. Together, these Volkswagen group cars will compete with other C-Segment sedans in Nepal like the Ford Fiesta, Fiat Linea and the Hyundai Verna.
Notably, all the aforementioned cars are built in India and exported to Nepal through the CBU route. This results in these cars’ price seeing a sharp spike as the Nepali government slaps a high import duty on all cars and two wheelers imported into that nation. The 2013 Skoda Rapid Diesel sedan is priced at 3.495 Million Nepali Rupees(NPR) while the Ambition Plus variant costs NPR 3.795 Million with the Ambition variant selling for NPR 4.095 Million. Translated into Indian currency, the Rapid Diesel’s prices in Nepal for the Active, Ambition and Elegance variants are: 21.84 lakhs, 23.71 lakhs and 25.59 lakhs.
